If you’ve ever been part of the CrossFit world, you know the power behind Hero WODs. These workouts are more than just physical challenges. They are designed to honor the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice, reminding us that fitness can be about purpose, remembrance, and connection, not just about scores on the whiteboard.

Last month at CrossFit 184, we brought that spirit even closer to home with something new — our very first annual “In Honor” WOD. It was a team workout of six athletes, designed intentionally to reflect one of the most important truths of life: no one carries the load alone. Every movement, every rep, and every transition was built around the idea that we move further and stronger when we move together.

The Heart Behind the Workout

Before the workout began, I shared a message with our community:

“I wanted to start by reminding you what we have. People think great community just happens when you have a group of people together, but that’s not the truth. Great community happens by having the right kind of people together for an extended period of time — supporting and encouraging one another through challenges and tough times. If anyone doesn’t have a member they can reach out to at any time, let me know, because we have too many great people here for anyone to ever feel alone.”

That’s what makes CrossFit 184 different. We’re not just about workouts and fitness goals. We’re about building something that lasts — a gym family that lifts each other up, inside and outside the walls of the gym.

Why “In Honor” Matters

The In Honor Of WOD wasn’t created for competition. It was created to remember, to reflect, and to celebrate the people and stories that make our community so strong. Some carried the weight of loved ones they’ve lost. Others carried the reminder of challenges they’ve faced. Together, we carried the message that strength is multiplied when it’s shared.

As the workout unfolded, it became clear that the heaviest weight in the room wasn’t the barbell or the sandbag. It was the emotional weight of love, sacrifice, and connection. And that’s what gave this WOD its power.

Building More Than Fitness

At the end of the morning, the feeling that lingered wasn’t exhaustion — it was gratitude. Gratitude for the people standing next to us. Gratitude for the stories that shape us. Gratitude for the reminder that in life, just like in CrossFit, we are stronger together than we will ever be alone.

This was our first In Honor WOD, but it won’t be our last. Our vision is to make this an annual tradition at CrossFit 184 — a day to stop and remember, to carry the load as a team, and to recommit ourselves to being a community of strength, encouragement, and support.

A Legacy of Community

CrossFit is often described as a fitness program, but those of us who live it know the truth: it’s a vehicle for transformation. It teaches discipline, resilience, and courage. But at its best, it also teaches us about community, compassion, and connection.

🧡 To everyone who showed up for our first “In Honor” WOD — thank you. You turned a workout into a legacy. You reminded us why we do what we do. And you proved once again that at CrossFit 184, no one ever has to carry the load alone.
